Nikki MatthewsHebron Board of EducationNicole Matthews is a lifelong resident of Connecticut. Nikki has lived in Hebron since 2017, along with her two school aged children and a small menagerie of pets. Nikki and her family chose Hebron for its combination of rural setting, excellent school system, and sense of community. She strongly values education and is a firm believer that young people deserve a solid foundation from which to build their character and sense of self. Nikki is running for a position on the Hebron Board of Education in order to ensure that our district continues to provide a well-balanced education in an environment that is healthy, equitable, and inclusive of all children. Nikki has a dynamic, commonsense approach to leadership and is excited to join a committed team to make Hebron’s youngest citizens feel valued, safe, and confident. She is presently in her final year of chairing the board of a cooperative preschool, which ran seamlessly and without pandemic related closures due to following local, state, and federal guidelines. Nikki’s introduction to civil service was as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in her hometown of Morris, which sparked a love of emergency medical services and led to a career as a paramedic in 2002. As a Middlesex Paramedic, she served Middlesex County and its surrounding towns, including mutual aid to Hebron, for 14 years. Notably, she responded to national emergencies following the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina and volunteered as a Covid-19 vaccinator earlier this year. Following her career in EMS, Nikki accepted the position of Clinical Compliance Manager for an organization that coordinates medical care in remote environments. Nikki holds a BS from UConn and an MBA from the University of New Haven. She is a dedicated volunteer in the community. Her biggest impacts have been leading a local gun violence prevention group and assisting local and federal campaigns with social media, volunteer coordination, and voter outreach. Nikki has been a member of the Democratic Town Committee since 2019 and is a member of the Engagement Committee as well as the Election Committee, which she co-chairs. Along with other DTC and community members, Nikki helped to found and develop the Hebron Coalition on Diversity and Equity (CoDE). Nikki is an avid cyclist, baker, reader, and gardener with a keen interest in pollinator habitat and conservation. |
