Heather PetitHebron Board of EducationHeather Petit is running for reelection this November for the Hebron Board of Education. Currently, she serves as the Board's Chair and has been a champion for Hebron's children, families, and community. To date, Heather has successfully conducted both an interim and permanent Superintendent search with both the former and current boards. In a focus on continual improvement, Heather worked closely with the Superintendent and Board in developing a District Advancement Plan that promotes a way forward for students through academic and artistic excellence, wellness and family engagement, and continual improvement of district operations and programs. Heather remains dedicated to our schools providing a safe, in-person education for students with a focus on their health, safety and well being. Her leadership helped provide additional social workers in our schools through a continued partnership with AHM and championed the implementation of a new social emotional curriculum, the Choose Love program, at a critical time for kids. She has worked collegially with members of the Board of Finance and Selectmen to pass budgets that were both educationally sound and fiscally responsible. In addition, she saw through the replacement of piping containing lead at Hebron Elementary School in partnership with the Town Building Committee. As a parent, Heather has been a life-long advocate for children in our state. As a former children's policy analyst, she worked across the aisle to promote public policies in the best interest of children. Heather has worked as an Administrative Manager of UConn Heath's Child and Family Studies Department, as a First Grade teacher at a private school in New London, and in the investigation's unit at the Department of Children and Families. She holds a degree in psychology. Her personal and professional experience have helped her understand the importance of teachers and parents working together to provide the best education and outcomes for their children. If reelected to the Board of Education, she will continue to ensure that all Hebron's children are afforded the greatest opportunities. |
